COVID-19 Update: April 24,2020

UPDATE: April 24, 2020 – 1:30 p.m.

We are grateful for the many calls and notes from so many residents and families expressing thanks for Clark’s commitment to transparent communication. Our Task Force made this  commitment from day one and we have not wavered. Our job is not always easy as we navigate new recommendations and regulations (often daily), many that we implemented prior to being issued. The news has been inundated in particular with stories about the impact of COVID-19 in skilled nursing communities. These stories are unsettling, and I want to assure you we carefully following every protocol we have in place to keep our residents and staff safe. As of yesterday, we have no COVID-19 positive residents or staff. The prayers you offered for our one resident who was COVID-19 positive have been answered!

Our journey has been challenging behind the scenes. Ensuring we have an adequate supply of personal protection equipment (PPE) is a full time job. Our efforts have been bolstered by the generosity of individuals and corporations. Irwin Seating became a source for masks for residents, Amway a supplier of hand sanitizer, and Spectrum Health delivered two truck loads of PPE including masks, gowns, and face shields. The financial impact from purchasing additional supplies is significant and compounded by the mark-up for PPE. We are truly grateful for the many donations to our Caring for Those Who Care fund that will help offset these expenses.

The kind and loving human spirit is evident every day in our communities. The creativity of  our staff is astounding as they sing in hallways, dance at gatherings, pray openly and love  unconditionally. Our families are making masks, sending goodies, and decorating our communities with signs offering their thanks and messages of encouragement. We feel your love!

We thank you for doing your part by socially distancing, washing your hands, wearing your mask, and staying home. We are paying very close attention to our Governor’s new Executive Orders and communications. As we learn more and understand how it impacts life at Clark, we will stay in close communication with you. We look forward to the day we can all gather in person again in our communities!
