As the cases of coronavirus increase throughout our city, state, and nation, Clark is not immune. Yesterday we learned of four positive residents on 4th floor assisted living. As of today, we have nine residents and two staff members who are COVID positive. While this news is disheartening, we remain resolute in our efforts to mitigate the spread and stop further cases from entering our communities.
We have been communicating with families whose loved ones are impacted by this
development. They are showing great strength and understanding, for that we are very grateful.
As a community it’s important we all do everything in our power to keep COVID-19 at bay. We see this in three ways:
We conduct routine COVID testing of residents and staff as indicated by the CDC, Kent County Health department, and our Medical Director, James Passinault, MD. To date, we have conducted over 1,500 tests.
Staff wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including masks, protective eye wear, shoe coverings, and gowns. The type of PPE needed is determined by the area the where the employee works.
We are cohorting COVID positive residents. This required moving both positive and
negative residents to create a designated COVID area. Keeping the populations separate allows us to have designated staff in each area to abate cross-contamination and provide higher levels of care.
We have comprehensive cleaning and sanitization protocols in place including our 360 cleaning equipment for deep sanitizing.
First and foremost, wear your mask. It’s been demonstrated that masks have a
significant impact on stopping the transmission of coronavirus.
Wear your mask correctly. It should cover your nose and mouth. A snug fit around your nose is preferable. If you feel you need a better fitting mask, they are available at the reception desk.
Wash your hands frequently and keep them away from your face.
If you need to leave the campus, please be cautious. Positive testing rates in the
county are going up rapidly. Over the summer and fall, people let their guard down, kids returned to school, many colleges students returned to campus, and restaurants and entertainment venues reopened. This means your risk of exposure is greater than ever.
As we say physical distance, always remember the six foot rule.
Your housekeeping and facilities staff are rising to challenges that require their attention in different ways. They may need a few extra days to accomplish routine tasks. Please give them grace during this time.
Last week we had to stop outdoor visits due to the current COVID positive cases. We hope to resume the visits soon. In the meantime, stay in touch with phone calls, letters, care packages., etc.
Help stop the spread by wearing your mask, physically distancing, minimize time spent with groups, including family gatherings.
Assist Clark with keeping our PPE expenses down by providing your loved one with
surgical style (typically blue) masks to ensure they have a proper fitting mask.
Keep our residents and staff in your thoughts and prayers.
